E.ON: 90% of Northern Irish 'in favour' of offshore windfarms
Around 90 per cent of electricity customers in Northern Ireland are in favour of the construction of offshore wind farms on the coast, according to new research.
The study by energy supplier E.ON also found that people living in the province were the most in favour of the renewable energy source, while it was also popular with people in Wales and the south-west of England.
Commenting on the findings, the energy company's chief executive Dr Paul Golby said: "While offshore wind is clearly the most popular form of reducing carbon emissions, the regional variations are quite interesting.
"We need a diversity of generation and for our customers to take on board the energy efficiency message, only by doing that can we both keep the lights on and reduce the UK's carbon emissions."
Another report by E.ON recently found that children in the UK are more concerned by climate change than they are about gun crime where they live.
The same survey also found that adults were three times more worried about the state of the environment than their personal financial situation.
